Heroes of the World

Bruce Thompson
  • The people that you work with is what makes work enjoyable. (side note) I asked my dad what he liked most about his job, he said the people. The people I believe make a job worth staying for.
  • Don't get too caught up in work where you miss opportunities with your family. There needs to be a good balance, set goals and limits on what you are going to do.
Tom Monaghan:
  • Tom created the pizza deliveries, which created the whole industry. Tom admitted to pride, he had too much obsession for impressing people. He then read CS Lewis's book which read, the reason why you work harder and try to accomplish everything is to have more, not just to have more than other people. He then became very charitable. Lowering pride creates not only a name for your business, but a reputation that will be remembered.
Desh Deshpande:
  • He came to this company with $8 in his pocket, but he made it. He taught that there are things that we think that we need, but in essence we really don't need most of the things that we have. I don't think people realize what they can accomplish and who they actually are until they start losing everything. I'm not saying to seek out for it, but just make the most that you can with what you are given.
Paul Robshaw:
  • Look for opportunities and take the ones that are present for you. One lesson that I learned with this is that the will to work is very important. "It takes an awful lot of work to achieve success." I definitely agree with that.
Ken Zolot:
  • Charge at the business, have courage. He had such a desire, a strong desire to be an entrepreneur. He had a refusal to play by the rules, but look at that, he used that attitude to drive towards business.
Henry Stein:
  • Make your business better. If your part of a large organization, that gives you the opportunity to feel like you are achieving things and finding accomplishments. I have to admit, when I'm at work it is really neat to come up with new ideas that help the school improve. I love seeing the progress of my work like Henry.
Phil Romano:
  • Phil is an artist, he creates. You have to create and be different. Everyone has their own point of view, that means that we don't have to be like everyone else, be different. He likes to create things, so during his downtime he creates art. I'm similar to him, I like creating things. I like seeing my work in front of me, that's why I'm not a huge fan of computer programming!
  • Give people your art, give people your business, which should be an art and let them determine what it's worth.
Bud Brigham:
  • He always knew that he wanted to start a company. He really got into philosophy and virtues that help him to become a better person. He taught that it's important to be the best that you can be. I think that's very important when it comes to business.
Russ Rosenzweig
  • Share your wealth with the world, don't take everything for yourself. One thing that he thought was funny is how he didn't think about who his customer would be. That's really important, find a market, find a target audience, and then focus towards that target audience.
Matt Stewart
  • I like his idea about how the business that he's owned that has failed, he's tried to make money on. I think that's neat because it shows that he tries to take something that isn't successful to make them successful.
  • He used to own a small company, a painting company, that was really small, but looking back on that, he says that's where he learned his integrity, that's where he learned his business ethics.
Catherine Rohr
  • Catherine founded a prison another opportunity program to give prisoners another opportunities. She used to have a hard heart towards prisoners, however she later realized that they are humans, they have feelings, dreams, so she then started this organization to improve prison life.
